As a teenage student, I used to help friends and classmates with the school homework and especially with language learning. Many of my friends were the “bad “students who were left behind because they could not succeed at school. And this is when I started noticing that if I differentiated the way I helped them from the teacher’s method, they could easily LEARN !
Very soon, I started doubting the one-size-fits-all approach, which is very often applied in language teaching in a class. At that point, I promised myself that when I become a teacher no student will be excluded from learning, and the quote “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn” very soon became my motto.
Later on, when I started teaching in several Greek/English schools and educational organizations I noticed that the one-size-fits-all approach was still there! And I started questioning again:
How effective can language teaching be when the same instructional method, resources and textbooks are used to students with various backgrounds and learning styles?
After having seen so many students giving up I felt the urge to take action! I envisioned an online school that would take into account the personal circumstances, the language background, the learning style, the interests, the goals and the individual needs of each and every student.
And I came up with the idea of funding my online school “greekwithstefania”: A school that offers personalized learning and customized lesson plans.
My goal is to make a difference in the way the Greek Language is taught and give the opportunity to everybody who has an interest in this beautiful language to speak Greek !
